One piece odyssey

One Piece Odyssey is a 2023 role-playing video game developed by ILCA and published by Bandai Namco Entertainment. A part of the One Piece franchise, it was released for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows, and Xbox Series X/S. It also released for Nintendo Switch on July 25th, 2024.^[1

One Piece Odyssey is a turn-based role-playing game in which players control Monkey D. Luffy and the Straw Hat Pirates. Every playable character has a unique ability in line with their powers, which are used for traversal, collecting items, and solving puzzles. After engaging an enemy in the field, the game transitions to the battle screen, where the characters' actions are controlled using menu commands. The combat system revolves around "Scramble Area Battles" system, where battles are divided into several areas.

Players can optimize the positions of party members between areas to counter opponents. In some battles a random element of the system titled "Dramatic Scene" places the player in inconvenient situations playing to the characters' personalities, such as Sanji being unable to attack because he is surrounded by women, and overcoming them nets greater rewards. As with other games in the genre, the party members earn experience points after battle and level up once enough points are accumulated

Story

In the story of One Piece Odyssey, Luffy and the Straw Hat pirates find themselves in a huge storm at sea and shipwreck on the mysterious island known as Waford.  One Piece Odyssey is a brand-new turn-based RPG featuring new characters and monster designs produced by Eiichiro Oda, the author of One Piece.

The Straw Hat Pirates shipwreck on a mysterious island, the crew is separated, and Luffy loses his straw hat. Luffy, Usopp, Sanji, Chopper, Robin, and Franky ventured onto the island to find Zoro, Nami, and Brook. They wandered into King Kong Garden and saw Nami from a distance, cornered by a Del Kong. Fighting their way through Eisas and Hidélie Penguins, they arrived at the Del Kong's nest, but before the creature could hurt Nami, Zoro appeared and intervened.

When the Five Elders learn that the Straw Hat Pirates have shipwrecked on Waford, they send a certain person to the island.[4]

On Waford, the Straw Hat Pirates meet Adio Suerte, a wandering explorer, and Lim, a young woman with the abilities to steal people's abilities and seal them in a cube. She returns Luffy's straw hat and steals the crew's abilities, dispersing the cube that contains them into pieces. The pirate crew must find their lost abilities and explore Memoria, a world built from their memories. This takes the crew to recreations of Arabasta Kingdom, Water 7, Enies Lobby, Marineford, and Dressrosa, where they encounter familiar friends and foes.

After recovering their abilities, the Straw Hats crew are forced back into Memoria by a mysterious girl resembling Lim holding a black cube in hand. They are transported to an alternate Arabasta where Crocodile was successful in taking over the country. The black cubes alter Memoria, even bringing in other people (Dracule Mihawk, Perona, and Enel) from the Straw Hats' history who weren't created before.

Battle system

To start, we’ll cover the battle systems in the game and how the unbreakable bonds forged in battle are essential to beat your enemies. 

Tsuzuki: “In action games, it is necessary to focus and understand how to control a single character in each battle, to get that sense of satisfaction. However, One Piece as an IP has plenty of fascinating characters already in the “Straw Hat Crew”, so for our players to enjoy the unique charms of each and every one of them, we adopted a turn-based command battle as the battle system of our choice.”

Generally, RPG turn-based games have players set up all characters and locked in before executing the turn. However, One Piece Odyssey takes a different approach.

Tsuzuki: “We adapted a rock-paper-scissors element as its basic tactics, while also randomly positioning the characters into multiple areas. This is so that players can switch between various registered characters—and challenge them to make full use of each character’s unique abilities and skills to defeat the enemies at hand. This system provides a variety of situations they will face each time, which brings a fresh perspective on the combats they’ll endure along the way.”

DLC

A story-expansion DLC was announced on April 5th, 2023 titled "Reunion of Memories". It was released on May 25th, 2023.
